I really liked this theme. It reminded me a little of the last jingle package KQV used before they ended their news operation & shut down. Too bad it only had a 4 year run, but given recent events, that ended up being 2 years longer than it's replacement ran 😬 I miss WCBS already...

These jingles were terrible! Can't compare to the previous jingles or (further back) the "More than just the headlines" jingles.

WCBS goes back in time way before 1967. WCBS was NY's station for the Columbia Broadcasting System; may have been owned and operated. "CBS, the star's address". Home to Jack Benny, Arthur Godfrey and so many more icons.

In my younger years, I would listen to WCBS 880, 1010 WINS, and WADO 1280 . They all had all news formats, and now only WINS will remain as the only all news station station. I believe that with the cell phone and internet , news stations have become obsolete. Video killed the radio star .

Audacy just destroyed an nyc tradition.

Wayne, I learned of your UA-cam channel while streaming WCBS this Saturday morning, 08/24/24, the day before WCBS880 goes off air forever. Levon Putney's final, overnight taped hour. So glad I listened and we'll stream the final signoff of WCS880 on Sunday night at 11:45pm from retirement here in Florida. Your channel has been Favorited, thank you. This was an excellent 9/11 discussion. So nice to put faces to the names I've heard for so many years. I've been a listener since 1982 when I started working in NJ with my dad.... On September 11th, my then wife had a co-worker that never made it out of the north tower. I heard about that tragedy from her on my work telephone up in Dutchess County. I didn't see with my eyes what had happened until I got home from my shift some 12 hours later. I could only listen on the only news radio station I've ever listened to for 42 years. Thanks for being the best in the business.

Uninspiring and unsurprisingly Audacy ruins yet another station and effectively kills WCBS in 2024. As someone on the West Coast, in SoCal, we lost KFWB News 980 back in 2009. Not owned by Audacy back then. Call letters still exist (Spanish Radio), but the 24/7 news only found on KNX 97.1 and 1070AM and ironically headed up by, Alex Silverman. Sad to see this happening.

Not all NY'er have their accents/dialect. But some do. Even if they have NY born parents. However, if two people from different states move to NY or something, things can get different for them.

I have been listening to this wonderful station for 57years and will miss them dearly

Teletype Model 28's in that pic at 0:22? No wonder they sounded so smooth on that longtime audio loop used by WCBS from about late 1972 into the mid-'80's (and as of the early '80's, by WCAU Radio 121 in Philadelphia). 28's have a different sound to them than the older Model 15's. I suspected it was the Model 28's heard behind the likes of Adler, Donnelly, Parson, Farnsworth, Maurer, Sands, Hauptman, Vaughn, et al. in "Newsradio 88's" heyday.

I was a former NYC Transit spokesman from 1988 to 1992 always willing to go live when you asked. I moved to Philly in April of 2001, and while this was going on, KYW1060 announced that they were going to cut WCBS880 and stayed on you. I listened to you live the entire time, keeping the TV on but the volume off so I could listen. I get it why you guys can't stay, but I always felt centered to listen each day. Even when I was a 10 year old kid in Kew Gardens I used to listen to you guys. Thanks for all you've done. You should all be proud. A job well done!! Good luck to you all. Thank you.

i will miss listening to whats going on in the tristate area late at night on my radio up here in the canadian province of new brunswick. there is WINS but their signal isnt good around here because of interference from CFRB.

This is the worst news I've ever heard! How could Audacy be so irresponsible?! We need WCBS, especially since 1010 WINS does not come in clearly in upstate New York. WINS is NOT really a New York radio station, since its transmitter and antenna are located all the way in Lyndhurst, New Jersey. I listened to WCBS every day since I was a teenager. They are putting a lot of good journalists and announcers out of work and they don't care. What's to say that Audacy doesn't do the same to 1010 WINS? I will most definitely miss them. Good luck to the entire staff at 880 WCBS.

The news today is sad that Audacy is pulling the plug on cbs ny 880 and giving us more programming from knuckle dragging loudmouths.

WCBS is Coming to end on August 26 2024

And now they're being shut down and being replaced by sports radio. Audacity sucks.
